THE WAR (YOU, ME AND MY LOVE)

You, you sit in your corner
Looking at me, laughing at me
Why? Why you scoff at me?
You scorn me!
You hurt me time and time again,
I love you, you hate me
I love you still!

You educated fool
You look at me and the colour of my skin
Maybe the size of the clothes that I fit in
And say to you, I’m ugly
But why can’t you see
The inner beauty, it lies within me
I love you, you hate me, I love you still

Oh wise “God fearing” one
You whose prejudice
Needs no accomplice
To bring out the fear within me
You, you make tears fall from my eyes
The woman in me, huh, poor thing she dies
Cause I love you, you hate me and I love you still

You judge me based on my past
Well newsflash, I’ve changed at last
I’m no longer the girl I used to be!
Yet you still look at me
You beat me, don’t give me a chance
You make my life so hard, you don’t understand me!
And yet I love you, why do you hate me? I love you still

You, yes you!
What do you want from me?
I clothe you
I feed you
Yet you take breath from me, you give me your burden
Walk with your hands free, still you speak lies about me!
And yet I love you, you hate me! But I love you still!

I, yes me
I’ll cry no more
I’m stronger, at rest; I know I’m loved for sure
You, hmmph, you need to stop
Stop hating me, why can’t you see it’s not only killing you
It’s also killing me!
Let me say no more: “I love you, you hate me and I love you still
