The Ballad of the La Diablesse

Refrain:
Do you see her standing in the distance?
She is as beautiful as rose!
She represents the burly black woman
Whose strength no one knows!

Verse 1:
He walks on the street late at night
In a drunken state;
Trying to get his word in tact
He underestimates his fate

Verse 2:
He stumbles upon her beauty
And thinks he’s fallen in love
She swiftly and quietly approaches him
And then points to the starry sky above

Refrain
Verse 3:
She sweet talks him and leads him off
To a place where no eye can see
Further and further away from home
He follows her willingly
Verse 4:
Then suddenly she speaks to him
And he screams out; ‘Oh my!
What are you going to do to me?’
She said: ‘I’m taking your life!

Verse 5:
You men have been too cruel
And have treated me unjust
Hence this is what I resort to
And take your soul I must!’

Verse 6:
Therein lies his story
She’ll find another I guess!
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned
The scorn of the La Diablesse
